This weekend was Sebastian's weekend. He had something lined up every day and it started on Friday. He had an after school party Friday afternoon, went out for a Vietnamese dinner Friday night, had piano lessons on Saturday morning and then went to his best friend's birthday party right after, got to spend the night with Mom Mom and Pop Pop on Saturday night and then went to a hockey game with Elizabeth's family on Sunday. Between catching up with laundry and grocery shopping, we barely had time to clean the house and do rest of the chores!
Weekend started with a school party and dinner out.
What does an eight year old birthday party look like? Like this...a bunch of rowdy boys and Laser tag!
This weekend was the very first time we let Sebastian go to an event all by himself. Elizabeth's Father has season tkts to the hockey venue so they go every week. It was a very strange feeling to see Sebastian go off with another family! I always wondered when we would trust someone else to take care of our child. Thankfully, it was Elizabeth's family who we've grown to trust and get to know both parents. So we felt comfortable enough for Sebastian to join them.
He was so excited of course because I'm sure he felt his first true "independence". Not only did he get to go somewhere without his parents, but he also had $10 in his pocket to spend on junk food/snacks! The hockey game didn't start until 5 p.m. so they left the house around 3 p.m. to beat the traffic into the city. I watched my little man walk across the street to Elizabeth's house and I asked him if he wanted me to walk with him. He was so sweet because he said "only if you want to Mommy". I wasn't sure if he really wanted me to or not. But then he remembered he needed his booster seat for Elizabeth's car and came back. So we walked over together.
They were due back from the game around 9 p.m. My parents came over for dinner and said it felt very strange not to have Sebastian there! When the clock showed 9:08 p.m. and Sebastian wasn't at the front doorstep, I tried not to panic. Of course deep inside, I was a nervous wreck! So this is what "paybacks" are all about? What am I going to be like when we have teenagers?? The car did pull up our driveway at 9:10 p.m. Sebastian bounded in the house to show us his hocky puck. He also gave me back the $10 bill because Elizabeth's Dad had treated them to pizza and soda. I just gave him a great big bear hug. He probably thought Mommy was being over mushy but hey...he should be use to it by now! ;-)
Sebastian's first hockey game souvenir. He also wanted to keep the admission tkt as a momentum.
