Delays

After getting off the plane and a 10 and a half hour ride, we landed in Chicago. We had to get off the plane, collect our luggage, go through customs and immigrations and basically board back on the same plane. Our flight from Tokyo had to make the connection in Chicago. Scott and Dallas had to catch another United flight to Pittsburgh.

Well when we arrived in Chicago, the entire airport was in complete disorder. We waited for our luggage in baggage claim for almost an hour. We had to catch our flights in an hour. So by the time we got our luggage, went through customs and immigrations and go to the United counter, we missed our flight. It only took ten minutes to go through customs and immigrations since it was only for Ava and Logan.

By the time we got to the United counter, they told us we wouldn't have time to check our luggage in and would miss the flight. Since Scott and Dallas were getting on another flight and their flight was leaving 20 minutes after ours, they expedited their luggage through.

Michael and I had to book on another flight. There were two flights leaving Chicago, one at 3:30 and the other at 6:30 p.m. We put oursleves on the wait list for the 3:30 flight. Then we went to the security check point before the terminals and found out why we missed our 1:15 p.m. flight. There must have been 300 people waiting in the security line and they only had three security scanners working. We stood in the security line for 35 minutes. We finally did get on the 3:30 p.m. flight. What an ordeal!

At least Ava was relaxed (for the time being).

No one's luggage was coming down the chute. There must have been three flights that were waiting for their luggage at baggage claim.
